My First Name

I love my first name, John. Well, I love it more than my second name, _____. Which is why most of my friends and co-workers call me by my first name. Everyone else who called me by my second name is either dead, dying or is in a persistent vegetative coma.

If you stop and think, how many Johns do you know? I'd wager you know a couple of Johns even if you weren't actually aware of it. Juan, Juanito, Johann, Johannes, Jan, Jean, Jehan, Sean, Shane, Shaughn, Shaun, Shawn, Johnnie, Johnny, Ewan, Ivan, Hans, Hansel, Jovan, Gian, Gianni, Giovanni, Yanni and Zane are among the most common variants of this ubiquitous name.

I am not going to delve much into the name's etymology here. Rather I am going to share with you something I found on the net. It piqued my interest as the descriptions given are somewhat accurate. Here's what I got:
  • Although the name John creates the urge to be reliable and responsible, we emphasize that it causes procrastination, lack of confidence, and the inability to realize your goals and ambitions.
  • This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the fluid systems, and worry or mental tension.
  • The name of John has made you serious-minded, responsible, and stable.
  • You love the security of a home and family, you are fond of children, and, as a parent you would be fair and understanding.
  • Although you have good business judgment, you are not aggressive in your dealings because you do not like to create issues.
  • You would be successful in any position dealing with the public as you have a diplomatic and tactful manner and possess a charming, easy-going nature which puts people at ease.
  • People are drawn to you because they feel that you are patient, kind, understanding, and responsive.
I'm not sure if you'd be able to find ALL of your names here, especially if you've been christened with unique names (such as Neorazzio) or some unfortunate, odd mom-pop name combo (i.e., Bambi+Sixto=Sixbam). As of May 01, 2008, 10:58 pm they have 794,062 names in their database.

You may want to try it for yourself and see if your name is found here:

The results are quite interesting. And quite eerily so. Check it out!
