The Micronauts

The nineties brought him the joy of discovery, apprenticeship and craze. He set up Eden, a collective and a pocket size fanzine, with a handful of like-minded clubbers. He produced many records for his solo and collaborative projects, Nature, Discotique, The Eurostars, Impulsion and obviously The Micronauts for labels such as Rave Age Records, Fnac Music Dance Division, Loaded, Phono, Distance, Independiente, Sony... Whilst gigs and remixes followed on, mostly in the UK. In 1999 Virgin's offshoot Science released The Micronauts single "The Jag" and its druggy video made by Hollywood director Gregg Araki. Then one year later came the mini-album "Bleep To Bleep". Both caused a storm amongst the left field scene. These hectic years were also those of scattering and unbalanced work relationships.

With the new millennium came the time to make a fresh start. Monier decided to concentrate on The Micronauts as a solo project, to develop his career in his native country of France, and to stay true to the ideals which allowed the house and techno creative explosion: underground, independence, innovation. He setup a web site, the-micronauts.com, a label, Micronautics, produced soundtracks and embraced the digital revolution. His music is available for download sales on the best internet shops. As a DJ he plays across the world and he's a laptop early adopter (please note: no mp3 involved here, only full res wav and aif!). As a producer he refines his sound, adding the latest software technology and synthesis methods to his already rich range.

You can hear it now on the new Micronauts album, "Damaging Consent" released on Citizen Records, the Dijon-based label that brought us Vitalic, JohnLordFonda, Teenage Bad Girl and The Penelopes. Exploring the boundaries of electronic dance music, it's a fascinating travel through electro, techno, acid, hip-hop and rock. From the opening throbbing disco pulse of "Reaction" to the banging Chicago acid implosion of "Get Down" and the electro edged "Superstar", The Micronauts powerful dance-floor science is rooted in twisted experimentations that take us on a journey through new mutations and sound.

Inevitably over the years major artists have asked Monier to remix one of their tracks: Pizzaman, Neneh Cherry, The Chemical Brothers, OMD, Underworld, Death In Vegas, Mirwais adn Madonna to name but a few. Most of these remixes are featured on "A Remixes Retrospective", the CD that accompanies his new album.

City's breaking down on a camel's back.
They just have to go 'cause they don't know wack
So all you fill the streets it's appealing to see
You won't get out the county, 'cause you're damn ass free
You've got a new horizon, it's ephemeral style.
A melancholy town where we never smile.
And all I wanna hear is the message beep.
My dreams, they've got to kiss, because I don't get sleep, no.

Windmill, windmill for the land.
Turn forever hand in hand
Take it all in on your stride
It is sinking, falling down
Love forever, love is free
Let's turn forever you and me
Windmill, windmill for the land
Is everybody in?

Laughing gas these hazmats, fast cats,
Lining them up-a like ass cracks,
Lay these ponies at the track
It's my chocolate attack.
Shit, I'm stepping in the heart of this here
Carebear bumping in the heart of this here
Watch me as I gravitate
Hahahahahahaa.
Yo, we gonna go ghost town,
This motown, with yo sound
You're in the place
You gonna bite the dust
Can't fight with us
With yo sound, you kill the INC.
So don't stop, get it, get it
Until you're Jet Ahead.
Yo, watch the way I navigate
Hahahahahhaa

Is everybody in?

Don't shout, get it, get it
We are your captains in it (feel good)
Steady, watch me navigate,

La Bossa Fataka de Rameau

This modern dance company takes us into a magical world in their show La Bossa Fataka. Using extensive visual effects, La Bossa Fataka is a journey into the imaginary world of J.P Rameau, compositor at the court of King Louis XV. Extravagant and poetic, this combination of dance and video installation will leave you and your family dreaming.

218 performances between November 2006 and May 2008 including 38 performances outside France.

CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTE

The title is a joyful combination of a fragment of a phonetic poem "Die Karawan" by Hugo Ball and the name of a composer of genius from the XVIII century, Jean-Philippe Rameau.

The title is a nod, a bow (but not a historically accurate one) to the founder of the Dada movement, a movement that gave a sense of aesthetic depth to new expressive forms such as collage, assemblage, photomontage and sound poetry, which indirectly form the basis for this work.

LA BOSSA FATAKA DE RAMEAU, freely inspired ON DANSE, is shot through with intense imagination, extravagance and madness, and carries us with it through the hymn to pleasure that is the very heart of the Jean-Philippe Rameau’s philosophy and his musical works. José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu draw a very sunny portrait of the composer, in contrast to his customary, austere one – a contemporary vision of his aesthetics of pleasure that, in its richness, triumphs over "Les Indes Galantes" and "Les Boréades"

José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu make use of technological imagery, with its ability to project, to edit and to make collages, and they transpose it, in a series of free and zany whims, extravagant machinery, special effects, tight-walking clouds, transformations, flying carpets and visible changes to the enchanting theatre to bring it to the present.

A playful bestiary links us by a secret chain to the world of Jean de la Fontaine. And the world of the fabulist is José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu’s thread that leads through the unreal world of the marvelous, the magicians, the metamorphoses, the disguises and the transformations of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s lyric theatre.

The libretto of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s opera-ballet LES PALADINS is inspired by the tale "The Little Dog".

Through a subtle game of quotations, in which the old and the present-day reinforce, elucidate and amplify each other, José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu invite us to come with them to a wonderland of Rameau-like sounds. Rameau sweeps us off to his planet of light euphoria and of extravagance with its atmosphere of hedonist utopia.

Boulou et Elios Ferré: Gypsy jazz by the bay

The sons of the Manouche gypsy guitarist Pierre Matelot Ferret, who appeared on a few of Djangos recordings, Boulou and Elios Ferré bring gypsy swing into the modern era. They have upset the polite and pleasant mood of many a posh restaurant with the power and inventiveness of their playing. But those who expect to hear the familiar swing rhythms of the standard gypsy combos can leave bemused and disorientated. Boulou and Elios have largely abandoned the "boom chick" rhythms traditionally associated with gypsy jazz. They play gypsy jazz but from the other side of the fence. You have to bend your ear to hear where they are coming from.

Charlie Co TIME + SPACE

A Visual Diary, he calls it. Indeed, Charlie Co paints what he sees and feels, depicting any space and time.

For his 33rd solo exhibition aptly entitled “Time + Space” at the Alliance Francaise de Manille’s Total Gallery on April 21st, Co shows a collection of 9 works done from 2002 to 2008 that shows his interpretations of events that happened during this period, dealing with personal, social and political commentaries, developing an iconography of national and global issues.

Known for his vivid colors, Co succeeds in telling his stories into canvass with his own style, often taken as satirical and surreal at the same time. Collectively, his works emits powerful imagery that can provoke the viewers’ minds to think and beckons them to see the world as he sees it.

Co, a founding member of the Black Artists in Asia, is from Bacolod City, where he lives and works. He was a CCP Thirteen Artists awardee in 1990 and has represented the Philippines in the Sao Paolo Biennial and the Asia Pacific Triennial in Australia in 1996. He is presently represented by Osage Gallery of Hong Kong and has held exhibitions in its galleries in Beijing, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

When It Rains by Paramore

And when it rains on this side of town
It touches everything
Just say it again and mean it
We don't miss a thing
You made yourself a bed at the bottom
of the blackest hole (blackest hole)
and convinced yourself
that it's not the reason you don't see the sun anymore

And no, oh how could you do it
Oh, I, I never saw it coming
No, oh, I need an ending
So why can't you stay
Just long enough to explain

And when it rains
You always find an escape
Just running away
From all of the ones who love you
From everything
You made yourself a bed at the bottom
Of the blackest hole (blackest hole)
And you'll sleep 'til May
You'll say that you don't want to see the sun anymore

And no, oh how could you do it
Oh, I, I never saw it coming
No, oh, I need an ending
So why can't you stay
Just long enough to explain

Explain your side, take my side
Take these chances to turn it around
Take these chances we'll make it somehow
And take these chances and turn it around
Just turn it around.

And no, oh how could you do it
Oh, I, I never saw it coming
No, oh, how could you do it
Oh, I, I never saw it coming
No, oh, how could you do it
Oh, I, I never saw it coming and
No, oh, I need an ending
So why can't you stay
Just long enough to explain

You can take your time, take my time.

Hayag

A good friend shared with me an interesting site that streamed live TV for GMA 7 and ABS-CBN 2: Hayag - see it live (http://www.hayag.com/). Amazingly enough, the said site can be viewed for free. I just joined and signed up for an account, and that's it. Though, it's not required to sign-up to view the stream in Windows Media Player, registering gives you access to other live channels and videos uploaded and shared by other members.

Viewing this site requires that you have an active broadband or DSL connection and a version 10 or 11 of Windows Media Player.

If clicking on the following links http://www.hayag.com/pl/mytvko.asx (for GMA 7) or http://www.hayag.com/pl/ricyclops.asx (for ABS-CBN 2) doesn't open the stream, you may opt to do the following instead:
The stream had approximately about 30 to 40 seconds of delay versus the live cable channel and 20 to 25 seconds versus non-cable.

Am watching Doraemon as of this writing. Oh, how I missed that robotic cat. Happy viewing!
Credits go to Ron Borlongan (ron_snpcomputers@yahoo.com), Enzodesu (enzodesu@yahoo.com) and TipidPC (http://www.tipidpc.com/) for sharing this great find with the group.

Island Cove

1998. That was when we first went to Island Cove for our summer vacation. The place was newly opened and much of the place was still being developed. There wasn't much to do around, except swim and relax. I guess that's the whole point and concept of being a leisure park: being able to let people relax and get away from the bustling noise and stress of everyday life.

2008. We return and find ourselves surprised with how much difference 10 years can make. I guess it had a lot more to offer now than when we first came here. They've got the I-Camp, where you can engage a game of paintball (Global Gutz), and an animal sanctuary, where they feature a host of animals (crocs, monkeys, various birds and reptiles and a few dozen ostriches, deer and tigers. They have also set up a biker trail around the island, making it easier for bikers and other guests to get around.

Overall, it was another great vacation. I had to enjoy and bask in whatever relaxing opportunity that came. I'd be starting on a new project next week and this is one of the last chances I'd be having a long and stress-free vacation. Come Thursday next week, I'll be up-to-my neck with work. I pray I'm prepared.

I'd like to share a few infos about Island Cove. I got all of these from their site.

One Last Breath by Creed

Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding on to all I think is safe
It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape
I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

I'm looking down now that it's over
Reflecting on all of my mistakes
I thought I found the road to somewhere
Somewhere in His grace
I cried out heaven save me
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

I'm so far down

Sad eyes follow me
But I still believe there's something left for me
So please come stay with me
'Cause I still believe there's something left for you and me
For you and me
For you and me

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding on to all I think is safe

Falls Apart by Sugar Ray

She falls apart, by herself
No one's there to talk or understand
Feels sustained, dries her eyes
Finds herself, opens the door inside
People see right through you
Everyone who knew you well
Falls apart, might as well
Day is long and nothing is wasteful
Runaway runaway
Hold, hold you but your going away
Runaway runaway
Hold (Want) you tomorrow but your leaving today

You walk along by yourself
There's no sound, nothing is changing
Been gone away, left you there
Emptiness is nothing you can't share
All those words that hurt you
More than you would let it show
Comes apart, by yourself
All is well and everything is wasted
Runaway runaway
Hold (Want) hold you but your going away
Runaway runaway
Hold (Want) you tomorrow but your leaving today

Sometimes we'll feel around
And this dance instead can't be down
All the sound of me on my own
Any sound of me again
it's time away surround around a friend
I know where I know where no where to runaway

She falls apart, no one there
Hold her hand, it seems to disappear
Falls apart, might as well
Day is long and nothing is wasted
Runaway runaway
Hold (Want) hold you but your going away
Runaway runaway
Hold (Want) you tomorrow but your leaving today
Runaway runaway
Hold (Want) hold you (Want) but your going away
But your leaving today, but your leaving today

At Your Side by The Corrs

When the daylight's gone
and you're on your own
And you need a friend
just to be around
I will comfort you,
I will take your hand
And I'll pull you through,
I will understand

And you know that

I'll be at your side,
there's no need to worry
Together we'll survive,
through the haste and hurry
I'll be at your side
When you feel like you're alone,
or you've nowhere to turn
I'll be at your side

If life's standing still,
and your soul's confused
And you cannot find,
what road to choose
If you make mistakes (make mistakes..)
You won't let me down (let me down..)
I will still believe (still believe..)
I will turn around

And you know that

I'll be at your side,
there's no need to worry
Together we'll survive,
through the haste and hurry
I'll be at your side
If you feel like you're alone,
and you've nowhere to turn
I'll be at your side
(I'll be at... I'll be at your side)
I'll be at your side (I'll be at... I'll be at your side)
I'll be at your side

I'll be at your side,
there's no need to worry
Together we'll survive,
through the haste and hurry
I'll be at your side
If you feel like you're alone (feel like..)
you've got somewhere to go (somewhere to go..)
'Cause I'm at your side, yeah

I'm right at your side (I'll be right there for you)

My First Name

I love my first name, John. Well, I love it more than my second name, _____. Which is why most of my friends and co-workers call me by my first name. Everyone else who called me by my second name is either dead, dying or is in a persistent vegetative coma.

If you stop and think, how many Johns do you know? I'd wager you know a couple of Johns even if you weren't actually aware of it. Juan, Juanito, Johann, Johannes, Jan, Jean, Jehan, Sean, Shane, Shaughn, Shaun, Shawn, Johnnie, Johnny, Ewan, Ivan, Hans, Hansel, Jovan, Gian, Gianni, Giovanni, Yanni and Zane are among the most common variants of this ubiquitous name.

I am not going to delve much into the name's etymology here. Rather I am going to share with you something I found on the net. It piqued my interest as the descriptions given are somewhat accurate. Here's what I got:
  • Although the name John creates the urge to be reliable and responsible, we emphasize that it causes procrastination, lack of confidence, and the inability to realize your goals and ambitions.
  • This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the fluid systems, and worry or mental tension.
  • The name of John has made you serious-minded, responsible, and stable.
  • You love the security of a home and family, you are fond of children, and, as a parent you would be fair and understanding.
  • Although you have good business judgment, you are not aggressive in your dealings because you do not like to create issues.
  • You would be successful in any position dealing with the public as you have a diplomatic and tactful manner and possess a charming, easy-going nature which puts people at ease.
  • People are drawn to you because they feel that you are patient, kind, understanding, and responsive.
I'm not sure if you'd be able to find ALL of your names here, especially if you've been christened with unique names (such as Neorazzio) or some unfortunate, odd mom-pop name combo (i.e., Bambi+Sixto=Sixbam). As of May 01, 2008, 10:58 pm they have 794,062 names in their database.

You may want to try it for yourself and see if your name is found here:
http://www.kabalarians.com/cfm/menu-BriefAnalysis.cfm

The results are quite interesting. And quite eerily so. Check it out!
